Firstly, some argue that real grass is better looking aesthetically. This may resonate with some who seek a truly natural appearance and think artificial lawns just don’t offer that. However, artificial grass has come along way in terms of its appearance so this may be an outdated way of thinking. It also indulges a very British pastime of garden maintenance so, where some people see mowing, weeding etc. as an inconvenience, we acknowledge this, in fact, may be deemed an enjoyable way to spend a day.
Some also say that real grass may be more beneficial for the environment. 2,500sqft of natural lawn – a mid-sized garden – can provide enough oxygen for a family of 4. Real grass and natural gardens generally have also been proven to improve the owners’ sense of wellbeing and can be a great setting to alleviate the stresses of life.
Whilst new technologies mean artificial alternatives bring their own environmental benefits such as water preservation and less harmful emissions, the ‘grass’ is better in this regard in a real lawn. This is because it absorbs more carbon from the surrounding air and therefore facilitates a more balanced ecological system for humans, wildlife and plants alike.
