There is no single relaxation period that applies to every artificial turf product.
A practical reference for many projects is shown below:
| Ambient Conditions | Typical Relaxation Approach | Key Consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Above 30°C / 86°F | Several hours to approximately 24 hours | Avoid unnecessary prolonged direct solar exposure |
| 15–30°C / 59–86°F | Around 24 hours | Common installation range |
| 5–15°C / 41–59°F | Approximately 24–48 hours | Allow additional recovery time |
| Below 5°C / 41°F | Installation should be carefully evaluated | Follow product-specific requirements |
These figures should be regarded as practical installation guidance rather than universal certification requirements.
For turf that has experienced long-distance transportation, extended storage, or significant temperature changes, a longer relaxation period may be appropriate.
Instead of focusing only on the number of hours, installers should evaluate whether:
- Major wrinkles have relaxed;
- The backing lies relatively flat;
- The turf dimensions are stable;
- Fiber orientation has recovered;
- The material is suitable for final cutting and seaming.
The manufacturer’s technical installation instructions should take precedence where they specify different requirements.
