One of the most important rules for maintaining non-infill artificial turf is chemical compatibility.
Strong acids, strong alkalis, concentrated chlorine-based bleach and other aggressive chemicals may affect synthetic fibers, backing materials, coatings or adhesives.
Damage may not be immediately visible. Repeated exposure can potentially contribute to:
- Color fading
- Fiber embrittlement
- Fiber breakage
- Backing deterioration
- Adhesive degradation
- Reduced fiber retention
Therefore, the safest approach is to use the cleaning products specified or approved by the turf manufacturer.
Antibacterial treatment and chemical resistance are also different properties. A turf product described as antibacterial should not automatically be assumed to tolerate every disinfectant or cleaning chemical.
